EyesOpenIowa’s Sex Ed Academy is our new training school in which we will be offering professionals across Iowa with innovative and engaging trainings every month. Trainings within the Sex Ed Academy are open to any professionals in Iowa and do not have to be taken as part of the certification process. Certified Sexual Health Educator™

This certification is open to any professional in Iowa who would like to develop or enrich their skills in providing sexual health to adolescents. The certification process is voluntary and aligns with the National Teacher Preparation Standards through the Future of Sex  Education Initiative (FoSE). Becoming a Certified Sexual Health Educator allows professionals to competently and comfortably teach age-appropriate, medically accurate sexual health education while following a basic set of ethics.

The certification process supports individuals in enhancing their skills while demonstrating a high level of achievement in adolescent sexual health. Requirements for the certification will include a set of required trainings and experience with youth. This two-year certification entails thirty-two hours of initial required trainings including: Awkward to Awesome, HIV/AIDS/STDs, Puberty/Reproductive Anatomy/Birth Control and four hours of additional approved courses. EyesOpenIowa is designated by the federally funded agency Advocates for Youth as the State Lead
Agency in Iowa for Teen Pregnancy Prevention.
