Kristin Fairholm awarded Outstanding Teen Parent Award

Kristin Fairholm, Eyes Open Iowa's Executive Director, is being awarded with the Outstanding Teen Parent Award from Healthy Teen Network. This award is presented to a former teen parent who has overcame the obstacles of early parenting to achieve extraordinary personal and/or professional success. Kristin has been EOI's Executive Directive since 2011. Before becoming the Executive Director, Kristin was the Community Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (CAPP) Director, where she assisted grantees and Iowa school districts in implementing teen pregnancy prevention programming. She has led the agency's work under several different programs, including  Working to Institutionalize Sex Education (WISE) and TxTina - Iowa's teen pregnancy prevention texting initiative.  She has helped to develop the Certified Sexual Health Educator program, which is the first in Iowa that trains educators and ensures that they are given the skills, knowledge, and tools they need to properly and without bias educate young people with sex education and other sensitive topics.  Kristin herself is a former teen mom and uses her personal experiences as motivation to ensure that young people have a well rounded, non-shameful, sexual health education.

Kristin will be accepting this award at this year's Healthy Teen Network conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.  We invite you to join her and some of the EOI staff by attending the Healthy Teen Network Conference!
