EyesOpenIowa’s Training Academy strives to provides professionals, community members, parents and caregivers with the skills they need to best serve their staff, students, patients, clients, families, and selves. EOI’s trainings are innovative and engaging, and guide learners to content and best practices designed in meeting the needs of young people. Through in-person and online trainings, with EyesOpenIowa, your professional development is tailored to your specific needs.
EyesOpenIowa is part of the Sex Education Collaborative (SEC), a national collaborative that developed the Professional Learning Standards for Sex Education. These standards provide guidance for educators and school districts about content, skills, and professional disposition needed to implement sex education effectively. Eyes Open Academy®
In addition to in-person trainings available at the EyesOpenIowa training hall or available by request, EyesOpenIowa is excited to offer Eyes Open Academy. Eyes Open Academy is our new online training school in which we offer professionals, community members, parents, and caregivers across Iowa 24/7 access to a constantly growing library of innovative and engaging trainings. Additionally, all trainings within the Eyes Open Academy count toward recertification hours to become a Certified Sexual Health Educator.

So you got handed some lemons? Let’s make lemonade! Join us for the newest twist on EyesOpenIowa's popular curricula adaptation training! Participants will learn about best practices for effective sex education and fidelity and then will have plenty of examples and practice for lesson adaptation. Rights, Respect, Responsibility (3R’s) - July 31st - West Des Moines
This Training of Educators will prepare educators to facilitate the K-12 curriculum Rights, Respect, Responsibility by Advocates for Youth. In this one day training, participants will receive an overview of the 3R's curricula and its unique components. Click here to register.

FLASH Curriculum Training - August 1 - West Des Moines
This engaging training will equip educators to use the FLASH curriculum effectively. Participants will learn the theory behind the curriculum, key concepts, research, and best practices for teaching sensitive topics. This training will also allow participants an opportunity to practice facilitating FLASH in a safe and non-threatening environment. The fee for this training is $100. Awkward to Awesome - September 24 & 25
A highly interactive two-day training that is full of engaging activities and discussion around a variety of sexual health topics. This training will help lay the foundation for new educators and is a great refresher for those already in the field. This training will build core skills. Puberty, Reproductive Anatomy, and Contraception - October 1
This dynamic training that is a fun way to learn about puberty, reproductive anatomy, and contraception. Participants will learn how to teach/discuss these topics to youth by engaging in numerous, easy to recreate activities. Participants will leave this training with a better understanding of the topic areas, as well as resources to use with youth. Register now so you don’t miss out!
HIV/AIDS/STDs - October 2
This training will help participants increase their knowledge of the basics of HIV, AIDS, and other STDs. Participants will learn about the history of these diseases, testing, treatment and prevention, as well as best practices for teaching on these subjects. Teens & Technology - October 23
As our society embraces all technology has to offer, we find ourselves in a position to guide young people through a landscape we are navigating with them. Certified Sexual Health Educator™
This certification is open to any professional in Iowa who would like to develop or enrich their skills in providing sexual health to adolescents. The certification process is voluntary and aligns with the National Teacher Preparation Standards. Becoming a Certified Sexual Health Educator allows professionals to competently and comfortably teach age-appropriate, medically accurate sexual health education while following a basic set of ethics.

Training and Cancellation Policy
EyesOpenIowa reserves the right to cancel a training or event if we do not reach the minimum number of participants to make the event viable by the registration closing date. In the event that we cancel a training, we will notify you using the email you used during registration and refund your full registration amount using the same method you used for payment. Register early to avoid cancellation!
In the event of inclement weather we will work to reschedule the training. If we must cancel due to weather, we will contact you via the information you provided on your registration form.
Full refunds will be provided to registrants who provide at least one week’s notice prior to training. No refunds will be given after that time.
